1. Mosque-Cathedral ‘Mezquita’

Welcome to one of the most remarkable sights in all of Spain: the Mezquita of Córdoba! Now a cathedral, this Christian religious site inhibits the site of an ancient mosque, dating back to Moorish Times when much of Spain was under Islamic rule. During the period of Reconquista (13th century), the mosque was converted into a cathedral and is still an active place of Christian worship today.

There were not many alterations made to the original mosque, which means it’s fascinating to walk around; the beauty of this Islamic architecture remains evident from the red and white colored candy cane stripes that decorate the interior, the incredible archways, and the intricate stonework.
